So, it's March already. Last year at this time things were moving much more slowly as we were waiting for our little person to show up. I can't believe he'll be one next month. And I'll be 30. I'm not sure which one breaks my heart more ;)
We have a lot going on around here these days. We will be moving into our new house (hopefully) in May or early summer. I'm trying to get our condo organized and ready because we need to sell it soon. The hockey season is winding down. Pete will be at work everyday until March 15th... the last home game of the regular season. The Giants didn't make the playoffs- but that's ok, it'll be nice to have him working normal M-F 9-5 hours until August/September when it starts all over again.
Ollie is a busy little bee these days. The only time he stops moving is when he's sleeping. He will hardly drink a bottle without simultaneously doing something else as well. He's more of a swig and go kind of guy. He does a pretty good job sitting in his high chair and eating along side us... usually watching 'Gangnam Style' or a video of Disney's Tiki Room on YouTube. He'll be working those iPads better than us before we know it. Everything else with the little guy is pretty much status quo- in a good way. My favorite new thing is that he is so affectionate lately. Ollie has always loved to be held and carried around, but now he is actually snuggling up to us and hugging and kissing us on purpose. It's so cute. He loves exploring and taking in new things. He still knows what he wants and is extremely stubborn/vocal/determined to get his way.
Oliver has the 8 teeth he's had since he was 8 months. He has been a bit grouchy lately and his gums look quite puffy and red in the back but nothing new has popped through yet. Sleeping has seemed to reach a new level of greatness (knock on wood). It was pretty good since about 6 months, but I feel like now I can usually count on sleeping through the night about 90-95% of the time even when his schedule gets thrown off. When he wakes up at night, it's generally a quick fix with a bottle then he's back out again. He pretty much sleeps from 7:30pm to 7:00am. Even his naps have improved, but I think the days of his morning nap are almost behind us. Waaaaaaaa! :(
Otherwise we are just looking forward to warmer weather, our new house and April birthdays. Things are good and I certainly can't complain!
Some things are too good not to share. Most things aren't. But I will tell you anyway.

10 Months
OOOPS! I had his 10 month blog post sitting in here for about a month now and I guess I forgot to hit publish. I found it as a saved draft. I'm also currently working on his 11 month post which I will put up in the next few days along with the 10 month pictures I can't seem to find. Anyway... here's what Ollie was like just a month ago. Not much has changed :)
Ollie is 10 months of pure little boy madness (in a good way of course!). There isn't much he doesn't do these days besides walk and talk. He's changing so quickly all the time that I can't even tell you what he does new or different than before. Basically he is mastering all the skills he's been working on since about 5/6 months and building on them. He can also do things when you ask him (like wave and give kisses) and he always seems to know what you are asking of him. He is an old pro at pulling up and he's starting to let go more and more. I think we are still a ways away from walking, but he could surprise me. It was like this with rolling over and crawling too- I kept thinking he was just days away, but then it would take him several weeks to a month to actually do it. And that is just fine. He is pretty much moving at an average baby pace as far as developmental milestones go.

He is still very chatty. His favorite thing to say these days is 'dada'. Still. It has been that way for quite a few months now. He even picks up random objects or toys and holds them to his ear like it's a phone and says 'dada, dada'! He also points and says 'dat' or what sounds to me like 'looooook' or maybe it's 'booook'- he does LOVE his books. So much so he even tries to read them to me :) He is also figuring out how to match objects with their correct shapes. For so long he just chewed on those toys but now he is actually matching up circles with circles (and square with squares etc.) and trying to push them through the holes.
We manage to keep busy from day to day and music class is still very much the highlight of Ollie's week. I'll probably pick back up with swim once he turns 1. And he'll be 1 in just two short months. Unbelievable.
I weighed him in early January and both Ollie and Ernie were 24 pounds. I'm guessing he'll be just under 30 by his first birthday. His gain has slowed down quite considerably and he is slimming out and growing taller more than anything. He is amazingly beautiful both inside and out, and it is so fun to see his personality shining through every day. He has always been strong willed and opinionated and it just becomes more evident with each passing day.

9 months
Ollie is nine months old and seriously could not be cuter. He continues to amaze us every single day. At 8 months, just after American Thanksgiving he was doing a battle crawl and dragging his legs behind him to get where he wanted. A few days after Christmas we put him on the ground and he was on all fours motoring all over the place just like he had always been doing it. Recently, he also mastered pulling himself up on anything and everything. He has even gone so far as to pull up and let go for several seconds at a time. He's working on trying to get his feet to move the right way as he stands holding onto his his toys that are actually meant to be pushed. He seems to enjoy his freedom quite a bit, but he is still his clingy self and loves to be held by both Pete and I until something he shouldn't have catches his eye ;)
The kid is also just a HAM. He loves making people laugh and will laugh right along with you even if it doesn't involve him. He knows when all eyes are on him and makes the most of it with giggles, smiles, high fives, waves and hand clapping. He loves the ladies... and is particularly taken with blondes it seems. On most days I can see a little mischief brewing in his smile, it's equally as adorable as it is nerve-wracking. He loves music and will bob his head along with the beat. Good thing because we are starting music class again next week.
He's still eating extremely well and loves everything. I think he's getting sick of mushy baby food because he raspberries it out of his mouth and doesn't eat much of it. Might have something to do with those 8 big teeth! I usually just break things into chunks and give it to him in his high chair for him to feed himself. It's so fun because he pretty much eats what we eat, and he sits at the table with us going 'mmmm. mmmm.' On new years eve he seemed pretty adamant about trying my Thai red curry so I reluctantly gave him a little bite and he devoured it. I fed him more and more and he gobbled up every bite. He can really put back a meal.
I haven't had him weighed or measured lately, but when we were at the airport last week, we put him on the luggage scale and he weighed the same as Ernie (who had just been to the vet that day). Both of our kids are 24 pounds! Ollie is a seasoned traveler and slept peacefully on our way down to California and was really well behaved on the way back even though it was past his bedtime and he only slept for 45 minutes of the flight. He's also a gem in restaurants and even though it is a lot of work for us, it's still a lot of fun to bring him out and about.
Every time Ollie turns one month older I get a little bit sad, and this month has been particularly hard because he's changed so much so quickly and he's only a few months away from turning 1. Of course I try to make the most of every age and I'm always eager to see what's in store for us because it just gets more fun with every passing day...

Palm Springs and Disneyland
We just arrived home from a great trip to Palm Springs and Disneyland! It was Ollie's second time in Palm Springs and his very first Disney trip. He didn't sleep so well at night, but besides that I think he loved it. He seemed to really enjoy all the rides we brought him on. Ollie would dance with the music a little bit, but he spent most of the time looking around taking it all in. A few noteworthy rides include.... Peter Pan, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and many more. One ride in California adventure he even had to sit in his own seat, and he did just fine. His all time favorite though was the Tiki Room! He loved watching the birds as he danced and jumped like crazy as he flapped his arms to the music. Us big kids had a good time too and we pretty much got to go on all the rides we wanted to as well, thanks to our crew of babysitters that included grandparents and aunties ;)
Now that we are home, Ollie is in full fledged crawling and standing mode. He has been dragging his body around for quite some time now, but he finally got the crawling motion down. He's so proud of himself and I am proud of him too, but it breaks my heart a little bit. I can't believe our little newborn has turned into such a wild monkey! Before we left, he'd been working himself up to a stand in the tub and I caught him standing in his crib once... but now that we are back, he's pulling up on EVERYTHING and getting up quite quickly. It's heart stopping at times, but I guess that's just part of it from here on out. Luckily his crawl is still slow and labored so I have some time to adjust emotionally to this new phase... as well as time to go around putting plastic covers in all the sockets :)
Anyway, enough about that. Here's what you've been waiting for... pictures from our trip!

I've been a little behind in posting pictures. Here you go, starting with early November and working up to his 8 month picture on December 3. (only problem is I can't find the photos from Thanksgiving. hmmm.)
November 10- a few from his Christmas card photo shoot. (And the cards just got into the mail and are on their way!)
November 20- Gramma Julie's Birthday
November 25- Paul McCartney concert
December 3- 8 Months old! (The little monkey wouldn't hold still, so this was the best I could do. Look at that expression!)

8 Months
Oliver turned 8 months old on Monday... and what fun we are having. So much fun in fact that we like to bring him everywhere with us! Just in the past few weeks, he has been out for a big family birthday dinner for Uncle Zach, he's gone bowling and he went to his first concert to see Paul McCartney. I'm not sure if there will be another legend like that for him to see in his lifetime, so we figured what the heck, he should come along. It was a great show and Ollie has been awesome everywhere we have brought him. Just the other day we were out for lunch with a friend, and I caught him actively looking around in search of people to smile at and flirt with. Big blue eyes like that are hard to miss and he had many admirers, all of who he charmed with big toothy grins. At the bowling alley the other night, he was sharing french fries with me (don't judge) and I could see by the look on his face as I popped a bit of fry into his mouth that he was so proud and happy to be out with the big kids doing something fun. It's amazing to see him so full of enthusiasm and adventure.
I know I will probably say this at every stage in the game, but this age is particularly awesome! Ollie can't quite crawl yet (sooo close though), but he's interactive and playful and entertained by so many things. We are still doing swim and music, but they both end just before Christmas which is really too bad because we have loved them so much! He is also following a schedule that is much less strict than when we were doing sleep training. We don't need to be as regimented because he reliably sleeps through the night and generally takes 2 one hour - hour and a half naps a day. Lately he's been sleeping in to 7:30-8 which is amazing for us! He eats everything we give him and I still have yet to find a food he doesn't care for.
As far as his 'tricks' go, he claps his hands, scoots around, says mama/dada and "daw" when he sees Ernie or pictures of her. He points, he can swipe the iPhone screen (ahhh) and he can turn on light switches. He loves buttons, buckles and gadgets of any sort. Ollie is constantly in motion and can get into things faster than I can blink. He is just such a little boy and likes to be busy every moment he can keep his eyes open.
We are so excited for him to experience his first Christmas, even though he probably doesn't fully understand the Christmas spirit quite yet. We are planning on taking him to meet Santa soon which could prove to be quite traumatic for him, but it is pretty much a right of passage for any kid.
I have his monthly pictures but haven't loaded them yet, so I will add them to my next post along with lots of other photos :)
