We just got back from our 20 week ultrasound. Baby was a little bit naughty tonight and decided to roll over at the beginning of the appointment so we could only see its backside. Despite this, we had a great tech who was very patient and talked me through everything. The whole ultrasound took an hour because I had to keep going for walks down the hall or to use the bathroom to try and get the little one to turn around so the tech could get all the necessary pictures include for her report. Finally, at the end, baby decided to shift and give us a clear picture. The tech can't diagnose anything (if there happens to be something) so I won't know the full report until I see my midwife on the 22nd. Everything she had to say seemed really positive though and we counted 10 perfect fingers and toes!
The gender remains a mystery.
The pictures are quite funny as well because the baby was pretty much folded in half. Yoga baby, with long legs like its Daddy :) If you look closely in the photo, the legs are stretched out above the head and the feet didn't fit in the screen. It's tough to make out, but you can pretty much only see the little leg bones at the top left just above the nose. And as the tech was showing us everything, I could see the little feet right against my belly getting ready to kick me all night long.
It was so amazing to finally get a clearer picture of who I've been hanging out with for the past 4.5 months... and super reassuring to see 4 chambers of the heart beating at
148 beats per minute and the different quadrants of the brain as well. The face, is still a little scary because the ultrasound isn't very detailed, so I won't show you that picture. We are considering doing a 3D ultrasound, but is that cheating?
Hurry up March!
